About a critical kind of drawing, stretching imagination and invention
We will create a bank of marks: lines of different kinds, using various drawing media, made on a variety of papers.
These can be cut or torn out, piled up and used as our means of drawing.
Using either a figure or still life as subject matter these lines can then be arranged, stuck down, superimposed. It is a critical kind of drawing, stretching imagination and invention. Accident plays its part.
ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Paul Newland makes paintings which essentially combine memory with imagination and observation. His works often evolve over a long period of time in an on off sort of way. More recently he has begun to paint outside in oil paint where chance and accident have become part of his working process. Paul is also a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and has exhibited widely, he has won many awards including The Discerning Eye Purchase Prize in 2014.
