Life Drawing 1-day Workshop with Antony Williams: LONDON

28 January 2023

A life drawing day designed to support individual interests and all abilities; and an opportunity to draw from a life model with demonstrations by the tutor.

There will be advice on drawing materials, mark making, working from observation, and working with line and tone. The day will begin with a combination of short poses which will be followed by a longer pose in the afternoon, to enable the students to produce a more sustained drawing. Throughout the day there will be individual tuition, culminating at the end of the day with a group critique of the work produced.

There will be an emphasis on working with different materials including charcoal and pencil through the course of the day. You will learn various techniques including measuring but also working expressively.

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR

Antony Williams trained at Farnham College of Art and Portsmouth University. He works almost exclusively in Egg Tempera, with an emphasis on intense observation and a heightened sense of realism. He has won many prestigious awards including the Lynn Painter Stainer's Prize in 2012.

WHAT TO BRING

Students should bring a variety of drawing materials that they usually prefer, we suggest bringing thin willow charcoal, putty rubber, 3B or 4B pencils, A2 or larger sketchbook.

There is a basic materials shop on site if required. There are tea and coffee making facilities on site and cafes nearby - but you might want to bring a packed lunch.
