Join Julie Held NEAC for an afternoon exploring the Courtauld Institute of Art, a place of historical learning that hosts a glorious collection of work on paper, painting and objets d’art.
The workshop will focus on artworks from the 1700s and the 19th and early 20th century. Students will draw from three paintings, one of which will be from the earlier period and one from the 19th and 20th century. Julie will encourage students to look at construction, composition and paint configurations (mark-making in paint).
In the final half hour, we will come together to reflect on the experience and share what students have learned.
All levels of experience are welcome.
Colour is central to Julie Held’s practice, expressing the poignancy of her lifelong preoccupation with the powerful yet fragile cycle of life. She works with traditional materials – drawing and painting being the mainstay. Her working methods are various, including working from memory and imagination, the basis of which is drawn from things observed. She studied at Camberwell College of Arts and the Royal Academy Schools, and she has exhibited widely in Europe and is a member of the London Group.
Please bring a sketchbook and pencils or fine liner pens. Unfortunately, dusty or wet materials, such as charcoal, pastels or watercolours are not allowed.

Please note in addition to your NEAC workshop ticket, you will need to buy a "Permanent Collection" ticket for entry to the gallery at 2pm on Tuesday 13 May. It is best to do this in advance.
