Penrose Gardens, London NW3 7BF
In this second of three one-day workshops with Julie Jackson, we are offering a rare opportunity to paint a sustained pose from the life model over three consecutive Sundays in a light filled studio.
First we take in the atmosphere of the room, and then a vision of a group of forms, then an attempt to fit it into your canvas , board or paper. You can think of your marks as something subtracted from your general first impression or as a string of additions that gradually make their way towards a painting or a drawing.
You will have time to discuss your ideas through one to one tuition & with each other throughout the day. Some experience of working from a life model would be good. You will be given any advice on colour mixing, composition and form.
Julie Jackson is a figurative artist and has taught for many years with the NEAC Drawing School, the British Arts Council’s Creative Partnership, and runs a painting and drawing group. She has won numerous drawing prizes, including the NEAC Drawing Scholarship, The Ondaatje Rolls Drawing Prize, Winner Lloyds Bank Prize, The Fine Art Society Prize and The Bower Drawing Prize. Her inspiration comes initially from the desire to make a painting, to engage with paint, feel the space and make lines and form. “Looking at the world through the experience of drawing and painting, discovering rhythms and connecting with a person’s unique character makes me feel and see better. I love feeling the paint on the surface and its expressive beauty.”
Please work in mediums and sizes of your choice. Please bring your favourite materials, Easels and boards are provided.
