An opportunity for students to continue the tradition of drawing from the V&A cast collection and to understand more fully the fundamentals of drawing including proportion, perspective and composition.
After the museum was established in 1852, the Cast Courts have always been an essential part of the V&A where they were built to house the ever growing number of casts of architectural, ornamental and sculptural work of different historical periods from around Europe. The intention being to not only to educate the public but also to provide a valuable resource for artists and designers. The casts include the 12th-century Pórtico de la Gloria from the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the vast Trajan’s columns and Michelangelo’s David.
This workshop will be an opportunity for students to continue the tradition of looking and drawing from the cast collection and to understand more fully the fundamentals of drawing including proportion, perspective and composition.
Students will be encouraged to not only draw inspiration from the individual exhibits but to consider the collection as a whole including the surrounding architecture of the Cast Courts itself.
All levels of experience are welcome.
