Learn the fundamentals of drawing from observation and the criteria needed to approach the drawing of anything.
Ingres maintained “Drawing is the probity of art” and this workshop seeks to grasp the fundamentals of drawing from observation within the limits of a room. We will explore interior space in drawing, taking in a wider angle than we are perhaps used to, and thus provide the confidence and knowledge to draw larger spaces afterwards, such as a landscape or streetscape. We will also investigate other aspects of drawing from observation to deepen our understanding of it; broadening awareness of ways of looking at and perceiving a subject, and sharpening our skills of assessing relationships between the objects we are looking at. We will do various drawing exercises pertaining to all this, making both linear and tonal drawings. Hopefully this day will instil the criteria needed to approach the drawing of anything.
Victoria Jinivizian is based in Wiltshire and represented by David Simon Contemporary in Castle Cary. She trained at The Slade and her paintings are about interior spaces of personal significance which are all rooted in drawing from observation.
Drawing boards will be supplied.
We shall make a number of exploratory drawings, so not all your paper needs to be of premium quality. But you may wish to bring a couple of good quality sheets for more finished drawings.
There is a very good village shop opposite the venue, open until 2pm, or please bring your own lunch. It is possible for to order homemade sandwiches from the village shop via the tutor in advance if required. Tea and coffee will be offered at no cost during breaks.
