Artist Statement
'These pictures represent a domestic and working setting, with an element of structure that is one of the most noticeable aspects of the images. Colour and tone work together in the attempt to make something real about the space described. There is a sense of duration and how this relates to the image. Whether or not there is a figure in the paintings seems to be secondary to the more formal concerns of the picture making process.'
Method of Working
'The paintings are in oils and represent the human body, portrait or surroundings. The paintings are often a combination of being painted directly from life and being worked up from drawings and sometimes photographs. Each picture dictates its own duration in the making, from the first hand study to the developed studio painting.'
